Residence hall will be razed at University of Chicago

Pierce Hall, a student residence on the University of Chicago campus, has been cleared of students, and fencing is going up in preparation for its Aug. 19 demolition. DNAinfo Chicago says the university decided to tear down the 10-story residence hall, built in 1960, after students complained of deteriorating conditions. A new hall will be built in its place and is expected to open in 2016.
