The Plainview (Texas) Independent School District, anticipating a steep decline in enrollment, says it will close two of its four single-grade campuses. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal says the decision came after Cargill closed its meat processing plant in Plainview , displacing 2,000 employees, about 10 percent of the city’s estimated population of 22,000. Enrollment at the school district has dropped by 127 students in the spring semester, from 5,739 students in January to 5,612 students on March 29.
