North Carolina state board will consider 32 new charter schools for 2014

Board will decide in September how many will be allowed to open next year.

The North Carolina State Board of Education has agreed to consider opening up to 32 new charter schools in 2014. The Raleigh News & Observer says that out of 70 applicants, the recently disbanded Public Charter School Advisory Council recommended 26 schools. The State Board also will consider six applicants who were interviewed but not recommended for approval by the council. A vote is scheduled for September. North Carolina has 129 charter schools.
