Closings in Half Hollow Hills district expected to save $3 million next year

Two of seven elementary schools in the Half Hollow Hills (N.Y.) district will close at the end of this school year because of declining district enrollment. Newsday reports that the school board has voted to shutter the Chestnut Hill and Forest Park schools in Dix Hills. The closures are expected to save the district about $3 million next year -- most of that coming from staffing cuts.
