Judge blocks closing of charter school in Kansas City, Mo.

A judge has blocked the state of Missouri from closing a struggling charter school in Kansas City. The Kansas City Star says the temporary stay will enable Gordon Parks Elementary School to stay open through the end of scheduled classes in late June. A court hearing will be held on the issue in July. The school asked a court to intervene after state education officials, citing years of poor academic performance, voted to revoke the school’s charter. Gordon Parks officials contend that students have been making progress.
