Houston will close one of its middle schools

The Houston school board has voted to close Ryan Middle School because of low enrollment. The Houston Chronicle says the board also agreed to table a proposal to merge Jones and Sterling high schools. The merger plan drew criticism from community leaders who said the district misled them about the fate of those schools while pushing passage of its $1.9 billion bond referendum last November.
