Florida A&M lifts suspension on its marching band

Florida A&M University in Tallahassee says it is lifting the suspension of its marching band. The Tallahassee Democrat reports that the university's new director of marching and pep bands, Sylvester Young, will decide when the band is ready for public performances. The band had been suspended from performing, practicing or meeting since the November 2011 hazing death of drum major Robert Champion on a band bus in Orlando following a football game. Champion’s death put a spotlight on a pervasive culture of hazing at the university, leading to the retirement of the school's longtime band director and the resignation of the university president.
