San Diego City College is nearing the peak of a $475 million expansion that officials say will transform the community college into a modern training ground for the science, technology, health care and engineering industries. U-T San Diego says the college is adding seven major buildings — including one with a planetarium — and renovating nine others. The boom could boost enrollment from 16,900 to 25,000 within a decade and invigorate the former warehouse district where new offices, stores and residential buildings will soon rise.
