Clark County (Nev.) board looks at year-round calendars for several elementary schools

The Clark County (Nev.) School Board is considering converting as many as 11 elementary schools to a year-round calendar to alleviate crowding in southwest valley schools. The Las Vegas Sun reports that each of five southwest valley elementary schools has more than 1,000 students. Next year, the district is expecting an influx of 800 more students in southwest valley schools, putting several more than 150 percent over capacity. Board members concede that year-round options are not a permanent solution, but may be necessary until more money is available to build new schools.
