Bridgeport, Conn., appeals ouster of Paul Vallas as superintendent

July 8, 2013
Judge has ruled that former leader of Chicago and Philadelphia school systems does not have proper qualifications to be school superintendent.

Paul Vallas is continuing to serve as superintendent of Bridgeport, Conn., schools while an appeal is pending of a ruling that ousted him from his job. The Connecticut Post reports that the city attorney's office has appealed the decision and a stay placed on the ruling allows Vallas to continue working. A judge ruled that Vallas had taken a "sham" course to become qualified to serve as superintendent. Before taking the job in Bridgeport, Vallas had led districts in Chicago, Philadelphia and the Louisiana Recovery District.
