2 elementary schools in St. Louis spared from closing

Two St. Louis schools that were targeted for closing will remain open, the district says. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a 2009 report had recommended that Shenandoah and Mann elementary schools be closed, but Superintendent Kelvin Adams, citing improvements in academics, enrollment numbers and community support, has spared the schools. The district plans to spend $1.38 million on renovations to the schools.
