Where are U.S. students studying abroad?

More U.S. college students are enrolled in school in the United Kingdom than any other international destination.

In 2015-16, a total of 325,339 U.S. college students studied abroad for academic credit, according to the International Institute of Education's annual Open Doors report.

That represents an increase of 3.8 percent over the previous year's 313,415. More than half of Americans studying abroad were enrolled at institutions in Europe, and about one-fourth of them were studying in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

The most popular nation for U.S. students abroad was the United Kingdom—39,140 students traveled there to pursue their education.
