States where K-12 enrollment is growing the fastest, 2014 to 2026

Federal projections say enrollment is expected to rise in the South and West sections of the nation, and decline in the Northeast and Midwest.

Enrollment in public elementary and secondary schools is projected to increase by 2.8 percent between 2014 and 2026, according to an annual report from the National Center for Education Statistics. That would put the total number of students in K-12 public schools at 51,737,900.
