Numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau show the highest-spending states tended to be in the Northeast.

Public schools in the United States spent an average of $11,392 per student in fiscal 2015, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In Public Education Finances: 2015, Census Bureau statistics show that the state with the highest spending per pupil was New York, which allocated $21,206. Most of the states that spent the most per student are in the Northeast part of the United States.
