The website Wallet Hub has ranked the school systems in the 50 states and the District of Columbia

Which state has the best public education system?

The website WalletHub has tried to answer that question.

It has collected data from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia in an effort to assess the overall quality of a state's public schools.

The information examined covered 21 different measurements—some focused on academic quality and some on safety and security.

Among the factors considered: Graduation and dropout rates, math and reading test scores, SAT, ACT and AP test scores, pupil-teacher ratios, threats and violence, attendance, presence of drugs, discipline, bullying, presence of weapons, and youth incarceration rate.

Researchers analyzed the data, established a 100-point scale, and came up with an overall quality score for each state.

The top school system, Wallet Hub concluded, is Massachusetts, which had a score of 78.16.

Here are the 10 states with the highest scores in the WalletHub assessment.
