Harvard University tops the list of higher-education institutions with the largest endowments.

The endowments of major U.S. colleges and universities reported an average decline in value of 1.9 percent in fiscal 2016.

The 2016 NACUBO-Commonfund Study of Endowments reported financial data from 805 schools, the National Association of College and University Business Officials (NACUBO) said in a news release. In total, those 805 institutions reported endowment assets of $515.1 billion. Harvard University has the largest endowment—more than $34.5 billion.
