Best recycling campuses 2017

These colleges and universities had the highest recycling rates in the diversion category of the 2017 Recyclemania competition.

Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles has taken first place in the diversion category of the 2017 Recyclemania competition.

Over the eight-week competition among colleges and universities, Loyola Marymount had a recycling rate of 83.9 percent, a measure of waste reduction and recycling efforts on campus.

About 320 colleges and universities from the United States and Canada took part in the 2017 competition. Those schools had an aggregate enrollment of 4.1 million students. Between Feb. 5 and April 1, the participating campuses recycled or composted 69.9 million pounds of waste.
