Muskegon Community College has held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of its $14.81 million campus facility in downtown Muskegon, Mich.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports that the Carolyn I. and Peter Sturrus Technology Center occupies 75,000 square feet of space in renovated buildings that once housed the Muskegon Chronicle and a Masonic Temple.

The college began hosting classes in some completed spaces during fall 2017. Now, all of the center is ready for use.

The Sturrus Technology Center offers applied technology programs, experiential learning, a prototyping center, 3D printing, laser etching and vinyl-making and more, plus satellite locations of the the college bookstore and a credit union.

In June 2015, local developer Jon Rooks donated the 23,790-square-foot former Masonic Temple building to the college for its entrepreneurial studies program and related business-generating activities. The former Muskegon Chronicle building was acquired in September 2014 as part of the college's Student Success and Completion Strategic Plan to enhance student learning.
