$49.5 million renovation of Mukwonago (Wis.) High School begins

Officials break ground on a performing arts center that will be a key enhancement to the campus.

The Mukwonago (Wis.) school district has begun construction on a $49.5 million renovation of its high school.

Lake Country Now reports that officials have broken ground on a new performing arts center, a highlight of the renovations planned for the campus.

Voters in the district approved a bond proposal last year to pay for the upgrades. The high school was built in 1972 to serve 915 students, but the campus now has 1,600 students, and the much of the school is too small and outdated to meet their needs.

In addition to the performing arts center, the project will provide new music classrooms, main office, and gymnasium. Workers also will renovate second-floor classrooms, the library, technical education labs, and the cafeteria.

The performing arts center is expected to be complete when students return from winter break in 2018. Work on the gym will start in May and is expected to be finished in time for graduation in 2018.

The architect is Bray Architects and the construction manager is CG Schmidt.
