The University of Virginia has raised $1.43 billion during its seven-year fundraising campaign, the second-largest sum ever by a state university. This comes at a time when public colleges are vying more aggressively for private dollars than ever before. Only the University of California at Berkeley has raised more, closing its campaign just a week ago at $1.44 billion.
