Two months after opening, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at Radford University in Radford, VA, is on its way to becoming one of the more popular spots on campus.
“This definitely will be one of the primary showpieces on campus,” says Barry Miller, director of student recreation and wellness at Radford.
The $32 million, 115,000-square-foot facility, which opened on Dec. 1, was paid for with student fees that have been collected for several years. The center provides Radford’s 9,800 students with health and fitness opportunities that had not been available on campus.
In addition to fitness and wellness offerings, the center will house the university’s intramural, outdoors and sports club programs. The facility includes a three-court gym, a multipurpose activity court, two racquetball courts, 15,000 square feet of strength and cardio fitness space, four group exercise/fitness studios and an inclined indoor running track.
