New high school under construction in Valdosta, Ga.

$85 million facility will have more than 500,000 square feet of space

Valdosta (Ga.) City Schools has broken ground on a new high school.

WCTV-TV reports that the $85 million facility will have more than 500,000 square feet of space and will replace the existing high school campus, which is more than 40 years old.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2018. The architect is Altman + Barrett Architects

Funding for construction comes from a one-cent sales tax approved last year by voters.
