Emerson College Los Angeles, the new West Coast home for the Boston-based liberal arts college, has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for its innovative use of technology in its building design.

The school and the firm that designed the facility, Morphosis Architects, are winners of a 2015 AIA TAP Innovation Award. The AIA’s Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Knowledge Community established the awards to recognize state-of-the-art design that embraces building information modeling (BIM) and other technologies. Emerson was one of three higher-education facilities singled out for innovative design strategies.

Emerson was honored in the “Stellar Architecture” category.

“The AIA TAP Innovation Awards emphasize how this array of new practices and technologies will further enable project delivery and enhance data-centric methodologies in the management of buildings for their entire lifecycle, from design, to construction and through operations,” the AIA says.

The facility establishes a permanent home in the heart of Hollywood for Emerson's Los Angeles program, which trains students for careers in the entertainment industry. The building brings student housing, instructional facilities and administrative offices together in one location.
