In an effort to make information more easily available to the public, the Chicago public school system has posted an online listing of all of its more than 43,000 full-time employees—including their job titles and salaries.

"We are committed to transparency," says Ron Huberman, CEO of Chicago Public Schools.

The listing will be updated quarterly; the roster of employees as of May 1, 2010, runs 834 pages. It includes the department and budget category to which an employee is attached, and union affiliation, if any. The salary figures listed do not reflect reductions attributed to furlough days and unpaid holidays that have been mandated for non-union workers, the district says.

"We will continue to look for opportunities to make information available that helps explain how we operate," says Huberman.
