The Ware County (Ga.) school district is retrofitting all its facilities with LED lighting. The school system is partnering with IP Utilinet to have 24,000 LED lights installed in its school buildings.

After conducting a pilot program using LED tube lighting in several conference rooms, the 5,000-student district, based in Waycross, Ga., decided to carry out a systemwide upgrade.

The district expects to save an estimated $11 million in energy and maintenance costs over the next nine years.

“The money we save with maintenance and reduced energy costs can be applied to continual improvement of the quality of education we provide to our students,” Ware County Superintendent Joseph Barrow says in a news release.

The LED lights being installed are expected to last 15 to 20 years.
