Lodi Unified says consultant will help it cut costs, use alternative energy sources

The Lodi (Calif.) Unified District is hiring a consultant to reduce the school system's energy consumption and identify sources of renewable energy. Officials hope the consultant's advice will save them tens of thousands of dollars. The district will pay $122,000, but if it doesn't save at least that much by carrying out the consultant's advice, the consultant will repay the difference. Among the energy-saving strategies the district is considering are no-water urinals, photovoltaic panels, energy-miser devices on vending machines and windmills.
