The Charleston County (S.C.) district has received a $50,000 rebate from its local utility for taking part in a lighting retrofit program.

An incentive program initiated by South Carolina Electric and Gas enabled the school system to receive a refund of a portion of the money it had spent to install occupancy sensors in classrooms at 18 school campuses.

The money for the lighting upgrades came from a $1,296,664 federal economic stimulus grant, which also enabled the school system to improve the efficiency of heating and air conditioning units at some schools.
