Keeping Campuses Safe

Careful planning and the latest technologies help schools and universities improve security.

Ask someone about school shootings, and they are likely to recall the most violent and deadly events etched in their memories: Columbine, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook.

As traumatic and tragic as those episodes were, most schools and universities are unlikely to face violence of such magnitude. And statistics indicate that for many years, school crime has been declining. But that doesn’t mean administrators can become complacent and take refuge in an “it-won’t-happen here” mindset.<
