Aspen (Colo.) district proposal raises concerns from county officials

The Aspen (Colo.) School District has placed a $12 million bond issue on the November ballot so it can build housing for teachers. Board members say teacher housing is a critical need for the district housing. As older teachers retire, the teachers who replace them find they cannot afford to live in Aspen. Pitkin County commissioners have expressed concerns that the proposed site for the housing is outside the county's urban growth boundary. But district officials believe the site is the district's best option for building cost-effective housing for as many teachers as possible.
