Orange County (Fla.) district needs to dispose of 87 portable classrooms

June 1, 2011
Officials are looking to sell some units for $100--plus moving costs.

From The Orlando Sentinel: Need a portable classroom? The Orange County (Fla.) district has some it is willing to sell for as low as $100. Construction of additional classrooms on several campuses means that the district needs to get rid of 87 portables. Officials say 35 to 38 of those can be sold. In addition to the $100 asking price, the buyers would have to incur the costs of getting the needed permits and hauling the structures away. If the district can't find any buyers, the cost of removing and demolishing the portables is estimated to be as much as $563,325. District administrators say the portables can't be used elsewhere in the district because of changes in building codes since they were installed.
