Legislation would let University of Minnesota sell alcohol in new stadium

Alcohol sales were not allowed in TCF Bank Stadium's first year
From The Minneapolis Star Tribune: The Minnesota Legislature has passed a bill that would allow the University of Minnesota to serve alcohol in the new TCF Bank Stadium. Under the proposal, the university could permit alcohol in the stadium's premium seats provided that at least one-third of the general seating area also offered alcohol. University officials had wanted to serve alcohol in only the premium seats at the football stadium, but legislators argued that alcohol should be available throughout the stadium, or not at all. MAY 2009...from The St. Paul Pioneer Press: The University of Minnesota's governing body has voted to make the school's new football stadium alcohol-free. University leaders say the decision was forced upon them by the legislature and could prompt an estimated $1 million in givebacks to fans who have bought premium seats. The Board of Regents voted last year to allow liquor sales in premium seating areas but not general seating. But legislators criticized the arrangement as elitist and passed a provision last session saying the school had to either sell to all fans or none.
