Houston district will open Mandarin immersion school

From The Houston Chronicle: The Houston Independent School District will open one of the first schools in Texas to offer a Mandarin immersion program. The Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion Magnet School will open with pre-kindergarten through second-grade classes. About 160 students have enrolled in the school so far, and the district expects to add another 100 before classes begin. The school board has voted to spend up to $440,000 to renovate the campus, at Gordon Elementary in Bellaire.
