Housing at Ferris State University gets LEED gold

East Campus Suites opened on Big Rapids campus last year

News release: Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich., has received LEED Gold certification for its East Campus Suites buildings. The projects consists of three building. Each of them has three stories and has 24 four-bedroom suites and two two-bedroom suites. The energy-saving features of the buildings include a 30-percent reduction in water consumption; an 18-percent reduction in energy consumption; storage of 175,000 gallons of water below the parking lot to provide for absorption and slow discharge; diversion of more than 90 percent of construction waste from local landfills; and incorporation of high-efficiency glass and spray-applied insulation to maximize efficiency of the buildings' envelope.
