Construction boom at University of Central Florida

Football stadium and convocation center will bring activity to northeast part of Orlando campus.

The northeast section of the University of Central Florida in Orlando is expected to become one of the liveliest areas on campus when the roar and rumble of construction finally fades by year's end. It will be home to a high-profile 45,000-seat football stadium, a convocation hall/sports arena that can seat up to 10,000 people, four seven-story residence halls, a collection of shops and restaurants, and extensive landscaping intended to make the area more pedestrian-friendly. Not far from the action near the stadium, the school recently has dedicated a new psychology building to serve the school's most popular major. The $16.5 million building contains about 50,000 square feet of classroom, laboratory and office space.
