Charlotte-Mecklenberg (N.C.) district wins Broad Prize

District will get $550,000 in scholarships for Class of 2012

From The Charlotte Observer: The Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) School District has received the 2011 Broad Prize for urban education. The an award comes with $550,000 in scholarships for the class of 2012. It also means policymakers and educators across the nation will be looking to see what the district has done to help low-income and minority students succeed and graduate. Three districts—Broward County and Miami-Dade in Florida, and Ysleta in El Paso, Texas, were finalists for the prize. Each will each receive $150,000 in college scholarships.
