A former business manager at a Catholic school in San Antonio is suspected of embezzling $319,000 from the school, the Archdiocese of San Antonio says.
In a prepared statement, the Archdiocese says that auditors have found "evidence of possible significant embezzlement at St. Luke Catholic School in San Antonio by a former business manager."
The auditors' findings have been forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, but at this point, no charges have been filed.
The archdiocese says its insurance company will be reimbursing the school for the missing funds, and the school is seeking restitution of the missing funds.
"Many new procedures have been implemented and new personnel hired at the school, and the archdiocesan Department of Catholic Schools is currently collaborating with St. Luke Catholic School on providing oversight of school operations," the archdiocese says.
