From the 2023 Architectural Portfolio: Kelloggsvillle Central Elementary School

Jan. 25, 2024
The project was recognized as an outstanding design in the Elementary Schools category.

The new Kelloggsville Central Elementary School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, contains tall ceilings, separate wings for each grade level, and plenty of natural light. The two design schemes generated for the project were named “Playful Skies” and “Ready to Launch.’’ The design team was inspired by Kelloggsville’s “Rocket Pride” mantra. The two-story foyer, the “Rocket Silo,” hosts a skylight and a curved staircase to the second floor. The staggered brick texture creates visual interest above the stair that reinforces the idea of upward movement.
