PDC PROJECT MANAGER 2

Department: Planning, Design, and Construction

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

 

The Project Manager is responsible for facilitating and coordinating all design and construction phases of multiple University construction projects. This position is responsible for day-to-day management of consultants (architects, construction firms, other consultants, vendors) and cost and schedule controls of projects.

Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the project scope, budget and schedule.
  • Meet with user groups.
  • Serve as SMU’s day-to-day point of contact with the planning and design consultants.
  • Serve as SMU’s day-to-day point of contact with the construction firms.
  • Monitor construction progress and coordinate all related project documents.
  • Work closely with Facilities Services Department (FS) and other campus departments.

A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in design, construction project management, architecture, construction technology, engineering, facilities management or facilities planning.

A minimum of three years of work experience in design and/or construction project management is required.

Experience with traditional project delivery methods is strongly preferred. Experience solving design and construction issues on major projects of significant scope and complexity is desirable. Professional registration in area related to the design and/or construction industry is desirable. LEED AP accreditation is preferred, but not required.

Candidate must have the ability to tour construction sites to monitor progress and adherence to project specifications.

Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing.

A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess strong project management, problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to manage projects and tasks.

Must also demonstrate a strong focus on attention to detail.

Candidate must be able to work independently and cohesively within a team environment leading  diverse groups of individuals to meet project goals and objectives.

A strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) is required.  

Knowledge of and/or experience with AutoCAD and MS Projects is desirable. 

Candidate must possess strong project management, problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to manage projects and tasks.
