Billionaire investor John Paulson is donating $8.5 million to help the Success Academy charter school network open new middle schools in New York City.

The New York Post reports that the gift from John, his wife Jenny and the Paulson Foundation is among the largest received by Success, which is New York City’s largest charter school system. The charter organization operates 34 schools that serve 11,000 children.

The middle schools that the donation will support are scheduled to open next month in the Bedford-Stuyvesant and Hell’s Kitchen neighborhoods of the city.

The Success Academy charter network was founded by Eva Moskowitz, a former member of the New York City Council.
