Transfers from unaccredited districts in St. Louis area could cost $23 million

Two Missouri school districts that have been stripped of accreditation--Normandy and Riverview Gardens--could have to pay a collective $23 million in tuition and transportation costs for exiting students, according to the latest estimates. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says almost 1,700 students in the unaccredited school systems have applied to enroll in better public schools under provisions of a Missouri Supreme Court ruling. Their home districts must cover tuition, as well as transportation to at least one school system.
