Passage of bond issue enables board to schedule projects.

The Tacoma (Wash.) School Board has mapped out a construction schedule that envisions the completion of 14 new and renovated schools over the next eight years. The Tacoma News-Tribune says the Washington-Hoyt Elementary School will be the first project, beginning this summer. Students will be housed at the empty Hunt Middle School campus during the 2013-14 school year, and the renovated Washington, which will include a new addition, is scheduled to open in September 2014. Money for the construction program is coming from a $500 million bond issue approved by voters earlier this month.
