Six new members appointed to DeKalb County (Ga.) school board

March 13, 2013
New appointments replace members who were ousted because of district's accreditation woes.

Six people have been appointed to the DeKalb County (Ga.) school board to replace members who were ousted by Gov. Nathan Deal. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution identifies the new board members as John Coleman (District 1); Joyce Morley (District 7); Karen Carter (District 8); David Campbell (District 5); Thad Mayfield (District 9); and Michael Erwin (District 3). The vacancies were created when the State Board of Education recommended and the governor agreed that six of DeKalb’s nine school boards should be removed for jeopardizing the school district’s accreditation. The three board members who wre not ousted had been serving only since January.
