$24 million facility on San Marcos, Calif., campus provides more space for music, dance and theater.

Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif., has opened a $24 million performing arts center. U-T San Diego says the new 39,311-square-foot complex includes a revamped theater, new black box and dance studios, classrooms and offices. The new complex envelops the old Brubeck Theatre space, a 420-seat theater built in 1979. To enhance acoustics and accommodate new equipment, the auditorium was reduced to 261 seats. The new theater includes moving lights, computerized show controls and digital audio mixers. Just behind the Brubeck is a new 12,081-square-foot, two-story building that houses a black box theater.
