New Orleans inspector general says state has overpaid firm overseeing school construction

New Orleans Inspector General Ed Quatrevaux says the state Department of Education wasted nearly $33 million by overpaying the company that is overseeing the city's $1.8 billion school building master plan. Nola.com says the funds come out of a FEMA settlement that is enabling the schools in the city to be rebuilt and renovated. Many campuses were dilapidated even before Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. Recovery School District Superintendent Patrick Dobard objected strongly to the findings, calling them "totally inaccurate."
