Maryland district misses deadline, loses $1.4 million in state construction funding

Prince George's County district says unforeseen hurdles led to missed deadline for approving contracts.

The Prince George’s County (Md.) school district has been forced to return $1.4 million in state funds after it failed to meet deadlines for approving school construction contracts. The Washington Post says the state allocated the funds in 2011, but the district missed deadlines earlier this year for signing agreements with contractors. The money was earmarked for upgrades to science classrooms at Potomac and Crossland high schools. A spokesman for the school system says officials missed the deadline because of unforseen hurdles.
