A Kansas school district may use an alternative approach to the traditional bid process for the construction of a new high school, the Wichita Eagle reported. Wichita officials may use construction at-risk management procurement, which allows school districts to hire a construction manager prior to the bidding and design process. The process, which the state legislature approved in 2008, can speed up the construction schedule, improve coordination among the players involved and offer flexibility when changes arise. The high school project, which is expected to cost $56 million, is funded through a 2008 bond issue.
