High school where fire occurred cited for violations

In the wake of a chemistry class fire that left two students burned, New York City Fire Department investigators have cited Beacon High School in Manhattan for eight violations. The New York Times reports that dangerous chemicals were being stored unsafely and that safety equipment and practices were lacking in at least three rooms. One was the makeshift lab where the two students were injured last week when a chemistry demonstration went awry. One student was in critical condition, and the other was treated for burns and released.
