$9 million initiative will pay for cameras, access control improvements.

The Montgomery County, Md., County Council has approved local funding that will enable the county school system to upgrade security, including installation of surveillance cameras in school buildings. The Gazette reports that the council's allocation of $1.67 million in new county funds, added to about $3.1 million already approved within the county’s capital improvements program, will enable Montgomery County Public Schools to carry out the $9 million initiative. The money will go toward interior and exterior cameras as well as physical improvements that will ensure visitors check in at an administration office before they have access to the rest of the school.
