Former headquarters for pharmaceutical company will house charter high school

8-story Philadelphia building will be converted to the the String Theory High School for the Arts and Sciences

A nonprofit group has agreed to buy the former North American headquarters for GlaxoSmithKline in Philadelphia and make it home for a new charter high school focused on the performing arts. The Philadelphia Inquirer says the DeMedici Corporation II will pay $29 million for the eight-story building. It intends to open the String Theory High School for the Arts and Sciences later this year. It will open with 350 ninth graders and add a grade each year until 1,400 ninth through 12th graders are enrolled in 2016-17.
