Derek Sheely died in 2011 after sustaining head injuries at football practice

The family of Derek Sheely, a 22-year-old football player at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md., who died two years ago after sustaining head injuries on the practice field, contends in a lawsuit that reckless disregard for player health and safety led to his death. The Baltimore Sun says the suit argues that the university's football coaches "created an environment where players would be punished if they disclosed their injuries" and that they "challenged players to play through pain" to the point of risk.
